First Fishin' Trip

Erin and I took a trip to see my Dad down at Corpus Christi Lake. The
trip down takes about half a day, so we just relaxed the rest of
Thursday. Friday we all went into Alice to see my cousin Tammy, Uncle
Dutch, and Grandma Wall-Erin's great grandma. Today we are in Corpus
fishing in the Packard Channel. Grandpa bought Erin her very own
Barbie fishing pool which she caught her first fish on! He couldn't
get the fish off fast enough so she could try again!

Dublin Dr Pepper

Before we left Meridian SP we went to visit Dr Pepper, TX.  This is the oldest Dr Pepper bottler in the world, Dublin Dr Pepper also has the distinction of being bottled with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar - the original Dr Pepper formula.  We saw alot of cool machinery, the oldest being from the 1920's still in use.  They also had a DP museum that was awsome!  To all my fellow drinkers of this sweet nectar I bought a case of the good stuff.

Meridian SP

The last four days were spent at Meridian State Park. We did not get any phone service, so no daily posts. It was an okay park, small and not alot to do and no big town nearby. We were about the only ones there, so we had the whole lake and park to ourselves.

We also had the second issue of the trip. At Mckinney SP we discovered the fridge not working; Greg was able to pullup the owners manual on the iPhone and fix it. iPhones ROCK! The second happened pulling into a nearby grocery store and our weight distribution hitch bent. That required a trip onto Waco, an hour away. So Erin and I had a bum day and stayed in our PJs and watched movies all day.

Not much else to report. We are off to Bastrop State Park.

Cold treat

So one of my good friends told me that while we were in Abilene we had
to visit Cajun Cones, home of the best snow cones in the state! Being
a former snow cone maker myself, summer jig freshman year at SWT, I do
have to say those were some of the best snow cones I've had.

Abilene part 2

Having issues with Blogger from my iPhone so I had to send this in two posts.  The pics in the post before this one go with the update message.

Due to the heat we traveled to Abilene again to go experience stuff indoors.  We visited Frontier Texas which was very cool!  It was a museum detailing frontier life in Texas.  They used alot of  AV tricks and the exhibits were well done.  Next we visited The Grace Museum which had art exhibits as well as a kids museum.  Guess which one Erin enjoyed.  And if you are ever in the area you have to check out the wind turbine farms.  Did you know that Texas is #1 in the country for producing wind power?!

We pack up tomorrow and head for our third park, Meridian State Park.

More fun in Abilene

Daddy's special pool

This afternoon I tool the truck into town to have dinner with a friend
and Greg sent me this pic. Apparently, it was too hot to walk to the
pool.

Trip to the Abilene Zoo

Took a trip to the Abilene Zoo. It was a small zoo, but very nicely
done. It brought back memories of my time at the Houston Zoo. Erin
had fun feeding all the animals. Didn't stay too long, the temp got
up to 100!

Laundry Night

So only after 5 nights we had to go do laundry. RVing is dirty work!
Erin even pitched in.

Fun on the South Llano River

Our last two days was spent tubing and swimming on the river. Erin
had a great time! She was tubing thru the tunnel by herself and
wading around in the river current. We also got a close up look at a
beaver.

Tubing

The South Llano River SP has a very nice swimming hole and river to
tube. Although the lack of rain in the area has again effected the
water level. The tube trip which was supposed to be 45 minutes tops,
turned out to be about 2 hours! We did have to break the tube law and
paddle quite a bit. Erin did great though.

Beginning of our RV tour of 5 Texas State Parks

Our first leg of our trip started at Mckinney Falls State Park for 2
nights. The park was very nice and the campsite was HUGE! The falls
were a little disappointing due to the lack of rain, but we still had
lots of fun. Next stop is South Llano River State park.

4th of July

We celebrated the 4th in Austin on town lake. The symphony was
wonderful and the fireworks were great! Erin loved watching but she
had her ears covered the whole time due to the noise.
